How to Look Good in Every Photo | Model Tips

Good Morning!

Today's post has been one that I am so excited to share, because I have had a bit of experience in front of the camera. I have been blogging for a few years and have had so many photo shoots, (ahh I sooo wish I had photos from some of my photoshoots I had with my friends when I was in middle school! SO cringy!!) and I have had a bit of experience modelling as well! If you are a fashion blogger or just want to know ow to look better in photos, here are some of my favourite tips and tricks:

Know your good side

I'm going to let you in on a little secret. If you scroll on my instagram, you will notice a consistent pattern of similar angles of my face. hahahah 99% of my photos my face is turned slightly to the left, because that's my good side! Take a second to look in the mirror or take a few selfies of various angles of your face. When you know your good side it makes it so much easier when taking photos (I always stand on the left side of the group when I'm taking photos with my friends) haha and my friends always make fun of me!

Create angles

Something I have learned from modelling is that creating angles is so much more flattering compared to standing straight on to the camera. Create angles with your arms and legs by making small movements and creating candid moments! My go-to 'look' is to stand with one leg in front and to the side to make my legs look longer.  As well, I shift my weight to my back leg to make my legs appear slimmer. #legfordays ;)

The invisible heel

Another one of my go-to poses is a fake walking pose. I will raise my heels and stand slightly on my toes. Again, this makes the legs look longer, leaner, and adds movement and dimension to the photo. When doing the fake walk, be sure to lean back a little bit (hahah it sounds like an awkward pose but trust me, it looks good in photos!) because whatever is closer to the camera will appear larger, and whatever is further away will appear smaller. Hence, to make your legs appear longer and your waist smaller, leaning back even a little bit will create this illusion.

Natural light

One factor that can completely ruin a cute picture is the lighting!! We have actually been getting some realllly sunny weather in Vancouver recently, which is so lovely but not ideal for taking photos. If I am shooting outside on a sunny day, I will always look for a shady spot to take photos. Shooting in direct sunlight can create dramatic shadows under the eyes that can darken your face and make your eyes look tired. If you are shooting inside, windows will be your best friend! By facing a window (make sure you're facing the window and your back isn't towards it) you will get amazing lighting that will illuminate your face!

Use the "save photos" feature on Instagram for inspiration

I have soooo many photos saved on Instagram.. their "saved photos" feature is one of my favourite features for finding photo inspiration! When I have a photoshoot, I will look through my saved photos to find ideas for poses or looks that I want to do. At fashion week, the designers had 'mood boards' with dozens of photos of different poses and looks that inspired their line. Before each show, I would always take a quick peek at their mood board to see their vision for the line, and what kind of walk and pose would be best suited for my look.

The illusion of a smaller waist

Another trick I learned from runway modelling is to put your hands on the smallest part of your waist, and bring your fingers closer together. It's a simple tip and it can completely change the look of your waist.

5 Minute Beachy Waves Tutorial | Minimal Heat

Hello everyone!

Today I wanted to share with you a quick hair tutorial that has been my go-to this summer! I posted a poll on my Instagram a few days ago, and I got so so many people asking for a tutorial. I have naturally curly/wavy/frizzy hair, so I love that this tutorial emphasizes my natural curls... just a lot better! In the summer I really try to minimize the hat that I use on my hair, so I love that this tutorial only requires a little heat!

The night before...

The night before I want to have these curls, I will wash my hair and put them into two braids. (I like to wait for my hair to be about 50% dry so it isn't wet still in the morning). I also little to put  little bit of this hair oil in the ends because I have such dry hair, and I will add some of this heat protectant spray in my hair. (This one smells SO good!)

In the morning...

After the braids are dry I will take them out and gently run my fingers through them to break up the waves. I prefer to use my fingers rather than a brush because I find that the brush will just make my hair frizzy. I will then go in with a little more oil if I feel that the ends of my hair are dry.

Finishing touches

I will use my 1/4 inch curling wand (the smaller the wand the better!) to create a few curls with my bangs and on my very top layer of hair. I will add seven or eight curls with the wand, and then spray some of this sea salt spray in to give it a bit of texture. I love how these curls turn out, and I think they are so cute with a little bandana or a hair accessory. I love having a bronzy, shimmery makeup look with this hairstyle, I think it is so gorgeous for the summer!

18 Things I have Learned in 18 Years

IMG_7216.JPG

Hello Everyone! Welcome to my blog!! I am Rebecca Sophia, and I am so excited to finally have launched my own blog! I have been blogging with my two best friends for the past three years while we were in high school, but since graduating this Summer I knew it was time for me to start my own. I have always been into fashion and beauty, so that is what this blog will be about! I also am passionate about living a well-balanced lifestyle, and so there will be a few travel posts, as well as an occasional fitness postl! I hope you will find inspiration and motivation to discover your passions and that through my posts and stories I will be able to share my Faith and the hope I have in Jesus Christ!

thank you for stopping by!

Rebecca XO

Here are 18 things I have learned (since I just turned 18 this summer!!) and some things you may not know about me!

  1. Everything in moderation. Diet, exercise, people, and shopping

  2. Respect people’s time, and you will be respected. Being late is a character flaw of mine and its definitely something I have been working on the year! No matter how many times I tell myself “I’ll just arrive ‘fashionably late,’ its never a good feeling having to rush to get somewhere because of poor time management.

  3. Spend each morning with the Lord. He will fill you with strength for the day, and even just several minutes with Him can shift your mindset for the entire day

  4. New York is always a good idea especially in the spring

  5. Visit your grandparents when you can! I feel so blessed to live close to al my grandparents, and I so love spending time with them!

  6. Highschool is a time to be spontaneous. Sleep over at friends houses during the week, go to the city with your girlfriends on Fridays and join in on grad skip day!!

  7. Sometimes, your back account will near the negatives, and that’s ok lol!!! Just remember to spend a little less and save a little more.

  8. It’s so important to shut off your phone or computer once a day, and disconnect.

  9. People in high school won’t remember what wear, they will just remember how you remember how you made them feel. As cheesy as it sounds, kindness is the best first impression <3

  10. No matter how healthy you are trying to be, if a friend baked something at a party, have a piece and enjoy every bite

  11. Moving your body is essential

  12. Self takes only as long as self gives. Time management starts with how long you tell yourself you have.

  13. Some friends last forever, and some friends don’t. and that’s ok too.

  14. Coffee is a gift from above. Especially McDonald’s iced coffee made with milk and sugar free vanilla

  15. If someone tells you that you’re a giraffe, take it as a compliment haha

  16. No matter how tanned you want to get, laying out in the sun with an inch thick of tanning oil may look nice now, but in 25 years, you’ll have wished that was SPF 80 instead

  17. Your car is the best place to be yourself and let go of anything that happened during the day. Turn up the Taylor Swift and don’t give a second thought about what the other drivers think

  18. Even though I’m 18, I’m only 18, and I have so much to still learn!!
